What exciting times we live in now…

We have a president intent on rolling back protections for the LGBT community, the AZ Supreme Court crafting a ruling that is narrow but opens the door for discrimination in the Brush and Nib ruling and still only 6 towns with full non-discrimination ordinances.  Now is the time we need to come together as one, need each other businesses to support and collaborate with each other for strength.

The Chamber is known for its Giving to local Nonprofits, helping support fundraising while they help those segments of society that need lifting up.  This year we helped the Gay and Lesbian Student Education Network, the Phoenix Gay Mens Chorus, our youth in 1 n 10 and many other nonprofits that affect all parts of our diverse community.  We do this with our biggest events of the year, Biz Bowl in July and Festival of Trees in December.

Our amazing year in review:  We had monthly lunches where networking and learning engaged our members.  We had our first Breakfast mixer for the early morning crowd.  Our Lunch and Learns gave quick skills on many business topics. We had our Monthly Mixers that allowed for mixing and mingling in the name of Networking at some of our amazing venues in Phoenix.  The GPGLCC became part of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce which allows our members to qualify as a diversity business, a cost savings of hundreds of dollars.  I attended the National Conference and came away so excited about building our Chamber and all the possibilities.

This Chamber has magic and my promise is to use that magic to make it be one of the best chambers in the Phoenix Market but also to be a leader in the LGBT chambers around the country.  We have our work cut out for us.  We need to be seen as the “go to” for issues that affect the LGBT businesses and truly all businesses who believe in diversity.  We need to help the City grow and bring in larger conferences and we do that by making sure the city knows about our LGBT businesses and areas.  We need to make alliances with other chambers and Associations so we are all stronger together, collectively.  We need to have our arms out, reaching for our next allies, our partners in Diversity, Inclusion and Equality.

My promise to you is watch us grow, come and join us!

Sincerely,

Felicia Butts, Chair – GPGLCC
